Fiskapotetgratin (faroese Fish And Potato Gratin)
Fiskapotetgratin is a traditional dish from the Faroe Islands, featuring layers of tender fish and creamy potatoes baked to perfection. This hearty and comforting gratin is a staple in Faroese cuisine, perfect for a cozy family meal or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 500g white fish fillets, such as cod or haddock
- 1kg potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 200ml heavy cream
- 200ml fish or vegetable stock
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Butter a baking dish and arrange a layer of sliced potatoes on the bottom.
- Season the fish fillets with salt and pepper, then place them on top of the potatoes.
- Layer the sliced onions over the fish.
- Add another layer of sliced potatoes on top of the onions.
- In a saucepan, heat the cream and stock until warm. Pour this mixture over the potatoes in the baking dish.
- Dot the top with butter and cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
