Five-spice Tofu And Vegetable Lettuce Cups

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup sliced shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 head of butter lettuce, leaves separated

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the cubed tofu, soy sauce, and Chinese five-spice powder. Toss to coat the tofu evenly.
  2. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated tofu and cook until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the red bell pepper, carrots, mushrooms, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Return the tofu to the skillet and add the hoisin sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring to combine all the ingredients.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the chopped cilantro.
  6. To serve, spoon the tofu and vegetable mixture into the lettuce leaves, creating individual cups.
