Five-spice Tofu Lettuce Wraps

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, drained and crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 head of iceberg or butter lettuce, leaves separated
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the crumbled tofu with soy sauce and five-spice powder. Set aside.
  2. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, and bell pepper. Cook until softened.
  3. Add the marinated tofu and water chestnuts to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in hoisin sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Arrange lettuce leaves on a platter. Spoon the tofu mixture into the lettuce cups.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions and chopped peanuts, if desired.
