Flavorsome Mutton Biryani
Flavorsome Mutton Biryani is a classic South Indian dish that is rich in aromatic spices and tender mutton pieces, layered with fragrant basmati rice.
Ingredients
- 500g mutton, cut into pieces
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup mint leaves
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 cardamom pods
- 6 cloves
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon biryani masala
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Marinate the mutton with yogurt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, biryani masala, and salt. Let it sit for 1 hour.
- Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes.
- Heat ghee and oil in a large pot. Add cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the marinated mutton and cook until the meat is tender.
- Layer the cooked mutton with soaked basmati rice, mint leaves, coriander leaves, and green chilies. Sprinkle some biryani masala.
- Pour water over the rice, cover the pot, and cook on low heat until the rice is done.
- Once done, gently mix the rice and mutton together.
- Serve hot with raita and salad.
