Flavorsome Mutton Biryani

Ingredients

  • 500g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup ghee
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon biryani masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the mutton with yogurt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, biryani masala, and salt. Let it sit for 1 hour.
  2. Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat ghee and oil in a large pot. Add cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  5. Add the marinated mutton and cook until the meat is tender.
  6. Layer the cooked mutton with soaked basmati rice, mint leaves, coriander leaves, and green chilies. Sprinkle some biryani masala.
  7. Pour water over the rice, cover the pot, and cook on low heat until the rice is done.
  8. Once done, gently mix the rice and mutton together.
  9. Serve hot with raita and salad.
