Ingredients

  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gradually add in the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and continue to beat until glossy.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it simmers.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1/4 cup of sugar. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  5. To assemble, spoon the custard into serving dishes and top with a dollop of the meringue. Drizzle with caramel sauce.
