Fluffy Chak-Chak (Чак-чак)
Чак-чак is a traditional Kyrgyz sweet treat made from dough that is fried and then coated in a honey syrup. This version of the recipe creates a fluffy and light Чак-чак that is perfect for enjoying with a cup of tea or coffee.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup honey
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin rope.
- Cut the ropes into small pieces and fry in hot oil until golden brown and puffed.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the honey, sugar, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Remove the fried dough pieces from the oil and immediately dip them into the honey syrup, coating evenly.
- Arrange the coated dough pieces on a serving platter and allow to cool and harden before serving.
