Чак-чак is a traditional Kyrgyz sweet treat made from dough that is fried and then coated in a honey syrup. This version of the recipe creates a fluffy and light Чак-чак that is perfect for enjoying with a cup of tea or coffee.

Fluffy Chak-Chak (Чак-чак)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  3. On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin rope.
  5. Cut the ropes into small pieces and fry in hot oil until golden brown and puffed.
  6. In a separate saucepan, heat the honey, sugar, and vanilla extract until combined.
  7. Remove the fried dough pieces from the oil and immediately dip them into the honey syrup, coating evenly.
  8. Arrange the coated dough pieces on a serving platter and allow to cool and harden before serving.
