Fluffy Idli Surprise
Fluffy Idli Surprise is a traditional South Indian dish that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack. This recipe adds a surprise element to the classic idli by incorporating a flavorful filling inside the soft and fluffy rice cakes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of idli batter
- 1/2 cup of mixed vegetable filling (carrots, peas, and beans)
- 1 teaspoon of oil
- 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon of urad dal
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and urad dal. Let them splutter.
- Add the mixed vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the vegetables are tender. Set aside.
- Grease the idli molds and pour a spoonful of batter into each mold.
- Place a small amount of the vegetable filling on top of the batter in each mold.
- Cover the filling with more batter and steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove the idlis from the molds and serve hot with chutney and sambar.
