Fluffy Idli Surprise is a traditional South Indian dish that is perfect for breakfast or as a snack. This recipe adds a surprise element to the classic idli by incorporating a flavorful filling inside the soft and fluffy rice cakes.

Fluffy Idli Surprise

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of idli batter
  • 1/2 cup of mixed vegetable filling (carrots, peas, and beans)
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of urad dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and urad dal. Let them splutter.
  2. Add the mixed vegetables, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the vegetables are tender. Set aside.
  3. Grease the idli molds and pour a spoonful of batter into each mold.
  4. Place a small amount of the vegetable filling on top of the batter in each mold.
  5. Cover the filling with more batter and steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes.
  6. Once cooked, remove the idlis from the molds and serve hot with chutney and sambar.
