Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup fudge pieces
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk, mixing just until incorporated. Fold in the fudge pieces.
  5. Stir in the hot water. The batter will be thin. Pour evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
