Fragrant Coconut Chutney (ತೆಂಗಿನ ಚಟ್ನಿ)
This fragrant coconut chutney is a classic condiment in Udupi cuisine, known for its fresh and vibrant flavors. It pairs perfectly with dosa, idli, vada, and many other South Indian dishes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/2 inch ginger
- 1/4 cup roasted chana dal
- 1/2 cup water
- Salt to taste
- For tempering:
- 1 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2-3 curry leaves
Instructions
- In a blender, add grated coconut, green chilies, ginger, roasted chana dal, water, and salt.
- Blend to a smooth paste.
- Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
- For tempering, heat oil in a small pan.
- Add mustard seeds, urad dal, asafoetida, and curry leaves.
- Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, pour the tempering over the chutney.
- Stir gently to combine.
