Otlu Dolma Balık, or Fragrant Herb-Stuffed Fish, is a traditional dish from Crimean Tatar cuisine. This dish features a whole fish stuffed with a flavorful mixture of herbs and spices, then cooked to perfection.

Fragrant Herb-Stuffed Fish (Otlu Dolma Balık)

Ingredients

  • 1 whole fish, cleaned and gutted
  • 1 cup chopped mixed fresh herbs (such as parsley, dill, and cilantro)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the stovetop to medium heat.
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped herbs, onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stuff the fish cavity with the herb mixture.
  4. Brush the outside of the fish with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Place the fish in a large skillet and cook for about 10-12 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and the skin is crispy.
  6. Remove from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
