Fragrant Spicy Beef (Xiāng Là Niúròu)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp chili paste
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp Sichuan peppercorns
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok over high heat.
  2. Add the beef and stir-fry until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  3. Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil in the wok. Add the garlic, onion, and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, chili paste, sugar, and Sichuan peppercorns.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture and beef broth into the wok. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the beef to the wok and stir to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
