Franconian Plum Dumplings
Franconian Plum Dumplings are a traditional dish from the Franconian region of Germany. These sweet and savory dumplings are made with fresh plums and a potato-based dough, creating a delicious combination of flavors.
Ingredients
- 500g potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 200g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 12 ripe plums, pitted
- 12 sugar cubes
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 100g breadcrumbs
- 50g butter
- 2 tbsp sugar
Instructions
- Combine the mashed potatoes, flour, and salt to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and flatten each portion into a disk.
- Place a sugar cube in the center of each pitted plum and sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Wrap the dough around each plum, sealing it completely.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and gently drop in the dumplings.
- Cook for 15-20 minutes or until the dumplings float to the surface.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and sauté the breadcrumbs until golden brown.
- Roll the cooked dumplings in the buttered breadcrumbs and sprinkle with sugar.
- Serve the plum dumplings warm and enjoy!
