Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds thinly sliced roast beef
  • 4 French rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Split the French rolls and place them on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven for 5 minutes.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  4. In a large pot, combine the beef broth, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Add the roast beef to the simmering broth and heat for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches by layering the roast beef, caramelized onions, and provolone cheese on the toasted French rolls.
  7. Use the remaining broth as au jus for dipping.
