French Dip Sandwich
The French dip sandwich is a classic American dish consisting of thinly sliced roast beef on a French roll or baguette, served with a side of au jus for dipping. This savory sandwich is perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound thinly sliced roast beef
- 4 French rolls or baguettes
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
- In a separate pot, heat the beef broth and minced garlic over medium heat.
- Divide the roast beef into 4 portions and place them in the simmering broth to warm for 3-5 minutes.
- Slice the French rolls in half and place 2 slices of provolone cheese on one side of each roll.
- Using tongs, transfer the warm roast beef onto the cheese-covered rolls.
- Top the roast beef with caramelized onions and close the sandwiches.
- Serve the sandwiches with small bowls of the warm au jus for dipping.
