Ingredients
- 4 fillets of fresh white fish (such as cod or haddock)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup cold water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into thick chips
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Malt vinegar for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in the cold water to form a smooth batter.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Dip each fish fillet into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then carefully lower it into the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same hot oil, fry the potato chips in batches until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
