Fried Bread Pie (baursak Boregi)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water and knead the dough until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, cumin, and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a circle. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each circle and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the pies until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the fried bread pies from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
