Fried Cheese Pastry (Plăcintă cu Brânză)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the water and knead until the dough is smooth. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix the feta cheese, cottage cheese, dill, and green onions.
  3. Divide the dough into 6 equal parts. Roll out each part into a thin circle.
  4. Place a portion of the cheese filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over the filling and press the edges to seal.
  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the pastries until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
