Fried Doughnuts (Gogoși)
Gogoși are a traditional Romani fried doughnut that are popular for breakfast or as a sweet treat. They are easy to make and are perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out doughnut shapes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the fried doughnuts and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Dust the gogoși with powdered sugar before serving.
