Ingredients

  • 4 fillets of fish (such as kingfish or pomfret)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2-3 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish fillets with turmeric powder, red chili powder, black pepper powder, and salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp of coconut oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish fillets until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. In the same pan, heat the remaining coconut oil and sauté the onions, ginger, garlic, and green chilies until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add the tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  5. Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook for a few minutes.
  6. Pour in the water and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  7. Gently place the fried fish fillets into the sauce, spooning the sauce over the fish. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot.
