Ingredients

  • 500g boneless fish fillets
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying and cooking

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish fillets with yogurt, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish fillets until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. In a separate pot, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Sauté the onions until golden brown.
  4. Add garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Stir in the rice, garam masala, and coriander leaves. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked.
  6. Layer the fried fish over the cooked rice. Cover and let it steam for a few minutes.
  7. Gently mix the fish and rice before serving.
