Fried Fish Rice, also known as Lahori Fish Biryani, is a flavorful and aromatic dish from Pakistani cuisine. This dish combines tender pieces of fried fish with fragrant rice, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 500g boneless fish fillets
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 4 cups water
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying and cooking
Instructions
- Marinate the fish fillets with yogurt, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish fillets until golden brown. Set aside.
- In a separate pot, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Sauté the onions until golden brown.
- Add garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Stir in the rice, garam masala, and coriander leaves. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked.
- Layer the fried fish over the cooked rice. Cover and let it steam for a few minutes.
- Gently mix the fish and rice before serving.
