Fried Kwati (तल्ला क्वाती)

तल्ला क्वाती (Fried Kwati) is a traditional Newari dish made from a mixture of nine different types of sprouted beans. It is a nutritious and flavorful dish that is often prepared during special occasions and festivals in Nepal.

Fried Kwati (तल्ला क्वाती)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mixed sprouted beans
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
  4. Stir in the cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  5. Add the mixed sprouted beans and water to the pot.
  6. Cover and cook for 30-40 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
  7. Once the beans are cooked, remove the lid and continue to cook until the excess water evaporates.
  8. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  9. Once the excess water has evaporated, the Fried Kwati is ready to be served.
