Fried Kwati (तल्ला क्वाती)
तल्ला क्वाती (Fried Kwati) is a traditional Newari dish made from a mixture of nine different types of sprouted beans. It is a nutritious and flavorful dish that is often prepared during special occasions and festivals in Nepal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mixed sprouted beans
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
- Stir in the cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
- Add the mixed sprouted beans and water to the pot.
- Cover and cook for 30-40 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
- Once the beans are cooked, remove the lid and continue to cook until the excess water evaporates.
- Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot.
- Once the excess water has evaporated, the Fried Kwati is ready to be served.
