Ingredients
- 2 cups split and skinned black lentils (urad dal)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak the lentils in water for 4-5 hours, then drain and grind them into a coarse paste without adding water.
- Transfer the lentil paste to a bowl and add chopped onion, green chilies, ginger, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
- Take a small portion of the lentil mixture and shape it into a patty. Gently slide it into the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy.
- Remove the fried lentil patties onto a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with chutney or sauce of your choice.
