Frisian Almond Cake (Fryske Amelân Taart)

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and granulated sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the egg and almond extract, and mix until the dough comes together.
- Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch tart pan. Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix together the almond flour, powdered sugar, softened butter, and egg white until smooth.
- Spoon the almond filling into the prepared crust and spread it evenly.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the almond filling, then sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the cake to cool before slicing and serving.
