Frisian Stuffed Bell Peppers (Fryske Folle Paprika's)

Ingredients

  • 4 large bell peppers
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cut the tops off the bell peppers and remove the seeds and membranes.
  3. In a skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is tender.
  4. Stir in the cooked rice, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stuff the bell peppers with the meat and rice mixture.
  6. Place the stuffed peppers in a baking dish and pour the tomato sauce over them.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the peppers, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
