Fryske Seeftoal Paella (frisian Seafood Paella)
Fryske Seeftoal Paella, also known as Frisian Seafood Paella, is a traditional dish from the Frisian cuisine, featuring a delightful combination of seafood, rice, and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Arborio rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon saffron threads
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 4 cups fish or seafood broth
- 1/2 lb mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1/2 lb clams, cleaned
- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 lb white fish fillets, cut into chunks
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- Lemon wedges, for serving
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large paella pan, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and red bell pepper. Cook until softened.
- Add the saffron, paprika, and turmeric. Stir to combine with the vegetables.
- Stir in the Arborio rice and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in the fish or seafood broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is almost tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
- Add the mussels, clams, shrimp, and white fish to the pan. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the seafood is cooked through and the shells have opened.
- Remove from heat and let the paella rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
