Galbi Jjim
Galbi jjim is a traditional Korean braised short rib dish that is savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly tender. It's a perfect dish for a special occasion or a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef short ribs
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup rice wine
- 8 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 carrots, cut into chunks
- 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the stovetop to medium-high heat.
- Season the short ribs with salt and pepper, then sear them in a large pot until browned on all sides.
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice wine, and garlic. Pour the mixture over the browned short ribs.
- Add the onion, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms to the pot. Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Add the potatoes and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the meat is tender and the potatoes are cooked through.
- Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
