Galet Kyaw (sweet And Sour Sesame Chicken)
Galet Kyaw, also known as Sweet and Sour Sesame Chicken, is a popular dish in Burmese Chinese cuisine. This dish features tender chunks of chicken coated in a sweet and tangy sauce, with a hint of sesame flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, coat the chicken pieces in cornstarch, then dip them in the beaten eggs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, ketchup, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Slowly pour the slurry into the saucepan, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Add the cooked chicken to the saucepan and toss to coat the chicken in the sweet and sour sauce.
- Transfer the Galet Kyaw to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
