Galician Style Tuna (Atún a la Gallega)

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh tuna steaks
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the sliced potatoes in a single layer on a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
  4. Push the onion and garlic to the side of the skillet and add the tuna steaks. Sprinkle the paprika over the tuna and season with salt.
  5. Cook the tuna for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steaks, until the fish is cooked through but still moist.
  6. Arrange the cooked potatoes on a serving platter and place the tuna steaks on top. Spoon the sautéed onion and garlic over the tuna.
  7. Serve the Atún a la Gallega hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
