Galician Style Tuna (Atún a la Gallega)
Atún a la Gallega, or Galician Style Tuna, is a traditional dish from the Galicia region of Spain. This simple and flavorful recipe showcases the high-quality tuna that is abundant in the region, combined with the delicious flavors of Galician cuisine.
Ingredients
- 4 fresh tuna steaks
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the sliced potatoes in a single layer on a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Push the onion and garlic to the side of the skillet and add the tuna steaks. Sprinkle the paprika over the tuna and season with salt.
- Cook the tuna for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steaks, until the fish is cooked through but still moist.
- Arrange the cooked potatoes on a serving platter and place the tuna steaks on top. Spoon the sautéed onion and garlic over the tuna.
- Serve the Atún a la Gallega hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
