Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the beaten egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing well.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed in the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the gata to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice and serve the gata at room temperature.
