Gateau Poisson, or Mauritian Fish Cakes, are a popular street food in Mauritius. These delicious fish cakes are made with a combination of fresh fish, aromatic herbs, and spices, and are perfect for a light and flavorful meal or snack.
Ingredients
- 500g fresh fish fillets, deboned and skinless
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh coriander, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Place the fish fillets in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
- In a bowl, mix the chopped fish, onion, garlic, green chili, coriander, parsley, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the breadcrumbs and beaten eggs to the fish mixture and mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into small patties and refrigerate for 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the fish cakes until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with a side of chili sauce or chutney.
