Gejrot Tofu Delight, also known as Tahu Gejrot Delight, is a popular dish in Javanese cuisine that features crispy fried tofu cubes drenched in a sweet and tangy sauce. This delightful dish is perfect as an appetizer or a side dish for your meal.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cut into cubes
- 1 cup of sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 3 shallots, finely chopped
- 2 red chilies, thinly sliced
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 teaspoon of tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon of palm sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of water
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
- In a separate pan, combine the sweet soy sauce, shallots, red chilies, tomato, tamarind paste, palm sugar, salt, and water. Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the fried tofu cubes to the sauce and stir to coat the tofu evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and transfer the Gejrot Tofu to a serving plate.
