Gibanica (serbian Gibanica)
Gibanica is a traditional Serbian dish that consists of layers of phyllo dough and a savory cheese filling. This delicious pastry is a staple in Balkan cuisine and is often enjoyed as a breakfast or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the feta cheese, cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, eggs, and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 5 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread a layer of the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Continue layering the phyllo dough and cheese mixture, ending with a layer of phyllo dough on top.
- Brush the top layer with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the gibanica is golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
