Ingredients

  • 2 green plantains, peeled and sliced

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the plantain slices and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. Remove the fried plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  4. Using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy glass, flatten the plantain slices to about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Return the flattened plantains to the skillet and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy.
  6. Remove the tostones from the skillet and sprinkle with salt to taste.
  7. Serve the tostones with your favorite salsa or chimichurri sauce for dipping.
