Goan Shrimp Balchão

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, cleaned and deveined
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 6-8 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and dry red chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add turmeric powder and sauté for another minute.
  4. Add the cleaned shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the vinegar and season with salt. Cook until the shrimp is done and the sauce thickens.
  6. Goan Shrimp Balchão is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
