Goan Shrimp Caldine
Goan Shrimp Caldine is a traditional Anglo-Indian dish that originates from the coastal region of Goa. This flavorful and mildly spiced coconut-based curry is a popular seafood delicacy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 2-3 sprigs of curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions, green chilies, ginger, and garlic until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the turmeric, coriander, cumin, and red chili powders. Stir well for a minute.
- Pour in the coconut milk and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Add the shrimp and curry leaves. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the shrimp is cooked through.
- Season with salt and simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
- Goan Shrimp Caldine is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
