Goan Style Chicken Xacuti

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 4-5 dry red chilies
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Roast the grated coconut, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves, and dry red chilies in a pan until golden brown. Grind the roasted mixture with ginger and garlic to make a smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook until they turn golden brown.
  4. Add the ground spice paste, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in 2 cups of water, cover the pan, and simmer until the chicken is cooked through and the curry thickens.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or Goan bread.
