Goan Style Chicken Xacuti Tacos

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into small pieces
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 dried red chilies
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
  2. Add the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon stick, and dried red chilies. Sauté for a few minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the grated coconut and continue to cook until it turns golden brown.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend into a smooth paste with a little water.
  5. In the same pan, add the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
  6. Add the ground spice paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  7. Add water and simmer until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce thickens.
  8. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
  9. Assemble the tacos by placing a spoonful of the chicken xacuti filling in each tortilla. Top with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges.
