Goat Soup (curaçaoan Sòpi Di Kabritu)
Goat Soup, known as Sòpi di Kabritu, is a traditional dish from the Caribbean island of Curaçao. This hearty and flavorful soup is a staple in Curaçaoan cuisine, often enjoyed during special occasions and family gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs goat meat, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 potatoes, diced
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper, whole (optional for extra heat)
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp allspice
- 6 cups water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the goat meat over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, sliced carrots, diced potatoes, chopped bell pepper, whole scotch bonnet pepper (if using), thyme, and allspice.
- Pour in the water and bring the soup to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 2 hours, or until the goat meat is tender.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
