Gogji Raazma (गोग्जी राजमा)

गोग्जी राजमा (Gogji Raazma) is a traditional Kashmiri dish made with turnips and kidney beans, cooked in a flavorful gravy. This vegetarian dish is a staple in Kashmiri cuisine and is perfect for a hearty meal.

Gogji Raazma (गोग्जी राजमा)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup kidney beans, soaked overnight
  • 2 medium-sized turnips, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the soaked kidney beans until tender.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  4. Add turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook the masala for a few minutes.
  5. Add the diced turnips and sauté for 5 minutes.
  6. Add the cooked kidney beans along with the water and mix well. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  8. गोग्जी राजमा (Gogji Raazma) is ready to be served hot with steamed rice or naan.
