Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Press the mixture into the prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  4. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot crust. Let them sit for a few minutes to soften, then spread the chocolate evenly over the crust.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the melted chocolate if desired.
  6. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into bars.
