Golden Samsa (Самса)
Самса (Golden Samsa) is a popular Kyrgyz pastry filled with savory meat and onions, wrapped in a flaky dough and baked to golden perfection. This delicious snack is perfect for any occasion and is sure to be a hit with friends and family.
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb or beef
- 2 large onions, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 500g puff pastry dough
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, onions, salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika until well combined.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Roll out the puff pastry dough and cut it into 12 equal squares.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each pastry square.
- Brush the edges of the pastry with water and fold them over the filling to form triangles. Press the edges to seal.
- Place the samsa on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with vegetable oil.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the samsa are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
