These savory cabbage rolls are filled with a flavorful mixture of ground meat, rice, and spices, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce. They are a comforting and satisfying meal that is perfect for a cozy night in.

Golubtsi (cabbage Roll Delight)

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the outer leaves are softened. Remove the cabbage from the water and carefully peel off the softened leaves. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf, tucking in the sides, to form a tight roll.
  4. In a separate pot, mix the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Place the cabbage rolls in the pot, seam side down. Pour the tomato mixture over the rolls.
  5. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
