Gosht Kalia (spiced Beef Curry)
Gosht Kalia is a flavorful and aromatic spiced beef curry that is a popular dish in Bangladeshi cuisine. This rich and hearty curry is perfect for a special occasion or a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, finely sliced
- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4-5 green cardamom pods
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cumin seeds. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
- Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the yogurt and add it to the pot, stirring continuously to avoid curdling.
- Pour in enough water to cover the beef, then cover and simmer for 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or naan.
