Gosht Kofta Tamatar Curry (spiced Lamb Meatballs In Tomato Curry)
Gosht Kofta Tamatar Curry is a classic East Indian dish featuring spiced lamb meatballs in a rich and flavorful tomato curry. This dish is perfect for a special occasion or a comforting family meal.
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 cup water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, onion, garlic, ginger, breadcrumbs, egg, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, cilantro, and salt. Mix well and form into small meatballs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, paprika, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in the water and bring the curry to a simmer. Gently add the meatballs back into the curry. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Serve the Gosht Kofta Tamatar Curry hot with steamed rice or naan.
