Gosht Kofta Tamatar Curry (spiced Lamb Meatballs In Tomato Curry)

Ingredients

  • 500g ground lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups tomato puree
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, onion, garlic, ginger, breadcrumbs, egg, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, cilantro, and salt. Mix well and form into small meatballs.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Add the tomato puree, turmeric powder, paprika, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the water and bring the curry to a simmer. Gently add the meatballs back into the curry. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Serve the Gosht Kofta Tamatar Curry hot with steamed rice or naan.
