Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.
  3. Add the onions to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the garlic, sweet paprika, and caraway seeds, and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Return the beef to the pot and add the tomato paste, beef broth, and red wine. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Bring the goulash to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  7. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
