Ingredients

  • 2 cups gram flour (besan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida, yogurt, oil, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth dough, adding water as needed.
  2. Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into cylindrical rolls to make the dumplings (gatte).
  3. Boil water in a pan and add the gatte. Cook for 15-20 minutes until the gatte float to the surface. Remove from water and set aside.
  4. For the curry, heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and turmeric powder. Then, add the cooked gatte and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Add yogurt and water to make the curry, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the gatte are coated with the curry.
  6. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or roti.
