Greek Dolmades (Ντολμάδες)
Ντολμάδες (Greek Dolmades) are a traditional Macedonian cuisine dish made of grape leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice, herbs, and spices. They are a popular appetizer or main dish, perfect for sharing with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 20 grape leaves, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh dill
- 1/4 cup pine nuts
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, olive oil, dill, pine nuts, mint, onion, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Place a grape leaf flat on a work surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the rice mixture onto the center of the leaf.
- Fold the bottom of the leaf over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll up tightly.
- Repeat with the remaining grape leaves and rice mixture.
- Place the dolmades in a large pot, seam side down, in a single layer. Add enough water to cover the dolmades.
- Place a plate on top of the dolmades to keep them from unraveling during cooking.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 hour.
- Remove the dolmades from the pot and let them cool before serving.
