Greek Souvlaki (Σουβλάκι)
Σουβλάκι (Greek Souvlaki) is a popular Macedonian cuisine dish consisting of grilled skewered meat, typically served with pita bread, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
- 3 tbsp (45ml) lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita bread rounds
- 1 cup (240g) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup (150g) sliced onions
- Tzatziki sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken pieces and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto skewers.
- Grill the skewers for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
- Warm the pita bread on the grill for a minute on each side.
- Assemble the souvlaki by placing the grilled chicken, tomatoes, and onions on the pita bread. Serve with tzatziki sauce.
