Grilled Skewers (shashlik)
Grilled Skewers, known as Shashlik in Kazakh cuisine, are a popular and delicious dish made with marinated meat and vegetables. This recipe is perfect for a summer barbecue or a cozy indoor meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef or lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 large onion, cut into chunks
- 2 bell peppers, cut into squares
- 8 cherry tomatoes
- 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
- 3 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the olive oil, vinegar, salt, and black pepper to make the marinade.
- Add the meat cubes to the marinade and let it sit for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
- Once the meat is marinated, thread the meat, onion, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes onto skewers.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill the skewers for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked to your desired level of doneness.
- Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
