Ingredients
- 1 lb pork loin, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup pineapple chunks
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, cut into chunks
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the cornstarch and flour. Dip the pork pieces in the beaten egg, then coat with the cornstarch-flour mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated pork pieces until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In a separate pan, sauté the garlic, onion, and bell peppers until they are slightly tender.
- Add the pineapple chunks, ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, water, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Add the fried pork pieces to the sweet and sour sauce, and toss to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Serve the Gu Lou Yok hot with steamed rice.
